Silent City

Silent City

(James WF Roberts)

If you’re a hammer
am I a nail?
if you’re lightning
am I the storm?

the silent city falls
does light remain
in your eyes
we lost our way
too many times
Silent city crumbles
ghost lights haunt
the night
and I remain the watchman
in this lurid game
taking down the score
time and time again.

Silent city
lonely night
was I found
when you were lost,
lost when you were found?
what now is the price of love?
whose to blame for the
 corpse on the ground?

Silent city
dawn yawns
at the edges of
the sky

Soon
the silent city
shall be nothing more
than an echo in the footnote
of my tragedy.
